A dead heat with the previous post, I’ve often wanted to photograph these ladies and today the light was ideal! [Thanks to PD for the edit]

Nice shop

Many cyclists have a fraught relationship with their local bikeshop. It feels like the place you should go for gear, but sometimes prices can be high and staff unhelpful.

I’m lucky enough to have Bikefix of Lamb’s Conduit Street on my daily commute. They stock a great range of stuff (including the mighty Farrhad).

Bikefix are also helpful with fiddly repairs- today helping me fix something, so that I didn’t have to order a complete replacement 🙂

Seen from the breakfast table; I liked the shapes and curves of the boat and bike.

Megapuzzling megapixels

Am pondering my camera setup at present. My ‘ancient’ Nikon DSLR (ca. 4 years old) is noticeably outclassed in the image quality department by a compact which was about 1/6th the price!

Current ‘serious’ compacts (such as Canon G10, Lumix LX-3) offer about twice the resolution of my DSLR for half the price it cost me back in 2005. The worry is that if megapixel counts keeps growing, I’ll be looking at updating again in another 3 years.

The rising tide of Moore’s Law makes me nostalgic for film. Not too much though, processing and scanning was such a faff!

Top biking tip

My usually faithful bike has been spitting off its chain recently. Time for a clean and adjustment, I think. Had a brainwave on the way in this morning- rather than get oily fingers, I used one of my tyre levers to flick the chain back on.

[Apologies if this seems a very obvious fix; I think it useful enough to share!]

Busy but graceful

Called to Ireland this week to care for a relative who was suddenly taken ill. It was a really busy and quite stressful time, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed by it. Some friends were quite surprised by this, but it all felt reasonably straightforward and ‘right’. Partly, I suppose, because in a a crisis you have a great clarity of focus and sense of purpose. But I also had a strong feeling of being supported, prayed for and ‘held’. Let’s hope that feeling continues…
